External Regional Sales Engineer

As an External Regional Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for finding business development opportunities within an assigned region of the UK. Regional Sales Engineers will be expected to maintain and contact our existing customer database, as well as finding new prospects and establishing new business. Engineers will typically be expected to spend 3 out of 5 working days visiting customers, surveying their sites and discussing any potential requirements they may have. There may also be requirements for overnight stays to maximise customer contact during the week. A key part of the role is generating detailed visit reports after each site visit, from which the Hycontrol internal sales team will be able to provide the customer with a quotation based on your survey. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced salesperson looking to make a real impression at a growing company.

Main Duties & Tasks:

  • Contact business prospects and find development opportunities and projects.
  • Process site visit reports and make appropriate solution and product recommendations for the customer. 
  • Complete comprehensive site surveys. 
  • Follow up existing opportunities to close additional business.
  • Contact customers from the existing database to book site visits or following up outstanding project work.
  • Proactive customer calls to support the company’s marketing strategy.
  • Attend relevant exhibitions with the company.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must hold GCSE level qualification of C or above in English and Maths.
  • Must have a full UK driving licence. 
  • Must have a good understanding of IT systems and should be comfortable using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • An understanding/interest or previous employment history in an engineering position would be advantageous.
  • Must have held a previous sales role for at least 3 years. Previous experience in an instrumentation role would be extremely advantageous.
  • Additional qualifications are desirable but not essential. 
  • Knowledge of ATEX environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.
  • Must be comfortable presenting products to customers face to face.

Salary and Benefits:

Benefits of this role include a company car, mobile phone and laptop computer. The salary for the position is negotiable depending on experience but does include a commission and bonus scheme. After an initial 6 month probation period the salary will be reviewed based on the candidate’s performance.  After the first year with the company, the new employee will be eligible for a discretional annual bonus. Employees get 33 days holiday each year inclusive of bank holidays and winter (Christmas) shutdown. A Workplace Pension scheme is also available. Depending on the employee’s performance, additional training and qualifications may be offered on the provision that the employee is expected to complete a minimum term of employment once the course is finished. This will be agreed upon when registering for a course.

Person Specification:

Overview:

The ideal candidate will be a driven, self-motivated person. Full product training will be given so prior technical expertise is not required, but any candidates who have a desire for personal professional development and an aptitude for learning will excel within this company. The candidate must be confident and able to communicate well both verbally and in writing. They will be fully supported as they settle into their new role and accompanied on all early site visits. This position is ideal for a resolute person who relishes hitting targets and meeting all manner of challenges. 

Education:

We are willing to discuss this position with anyone who has achieved at least grade C in Maths and English at GCSE level and is proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office package. Additional qualifications such as a University degree in a relevant field such as Engineering would be considered desirable, but are not essential for this position. 

Experience: 

Prior experience in a B2B sales or customer-facing role is essential for this position. Additional experience with level control or in technical product sales would be extremely advantageous.
