New FMCW radar for solids utilises 'drop' antenna

For applications in the bulk solids industry, Hycontrol has introduced a new reliable solution for measuring supplies of powders and granules. The new VG6 Series FMCW Radar has been introduced with a special Drop Antenna design which can operate in extremely dusty environments. Thanks to the outstanding efficiency of the Drop Antenna and the FMCW process, no special mounting equipment is required to align the antennas or keep them clean which makes installation very simple and low cost compared to other manufacturers which require expensive alignment arrangements and air purge options.
Dust and deposits do not affect the performance as the new Drop Antenna shape and materials of construction prevent anything from adhering to them. They also feature an outstanding directional receiving pattern (2° angle of reflected beam) and since the measurement is non-contact maintenance expenditures is kept to a minimum.
The user can choose from several antenna sizes and antenna materials. The Drop Antenna with its ellipsoidal shape is available in sizes DN 80 and DN150 in Polypropylene or PTFE with a temperature capability of up to 150°C and pressures of up to 40 bar are possible to a maximum measuring range of 80m.
The new VG6 series can be used anywhere that requires maintenance-free and reliable level measurement. For example, silos, hoppers, storage containers or conveyor belts in the cement, mining, iron and steel, power generation, chemical, paper, quarry and aggregate industry.
